Folk Dance Activity Rules

Title I - Object

  1. These rules govern the organisation and practice of folk dance within the ASBL “Le Comité Kurde” (LCK).

Title II - Registration and participation

  1. Any person wishing to participate in folk dance activities must be an effective member or an adherent member of the ASBL.

  2. Registration is validated upon:

    • payment of the annual membership fee;
    • payment of the specific dance contribution (if applicable);
    • submission of the signed registration form.
  3. Minors must provide parental authorisation.

  4. No technical prerequisites are required. Beginners are welcome.

Title III - Membership fees and costs

  1. The amount of membership fees is set annually by the Board of Directors.

  2. Hall rental, music and equipment costs are borne by the ASBL.

  3. Costs related to costumes and traditional outfits are borne by the ASBL, in accordance with the arrangements set out in Title VI of these rules.

Title IV - Schedule and locations

  1. Class and rehearsal schedules are set by the activity manager and communicated at least one week in advance.

  2. Sessions are held in the venues reserved by the ASBL.

  3. In the event of an exceptional change, participants are informed by electronic means.

Title V - Programme and conduct of the activity

  1. The activities include:

    • learning Kurdish folk dances and other traditions;
    • rehearsals for performances;
    • cultural and festive events organised by the ASBL.
  2. The activity manager draws up the annual programme of activities.

  3. Participants undertake to attend the sessions regularly and to take part in the performances.

Title VI - Equipment and outfits

  1. Costumes and traditional outfits are provided by the ASBL.

  2. Outfits provided by the ASBL are washed by each participant and must be returned in good condition. In the event of damage or non-return, an amount defined by the Board of Directors must be paid to purchase new outfits.

  3. Participants must wear clean and suitable dance shoes.

  4. Any dangerous object (jewellery, watches, etc.) must be removed before dancing.

  5. Particular attention is paid to respecting the sacred character of certain traditional outfits.

Title VII - Discipline and sanctions

  1. Every participant must adopt respectful behaviour towards other members, the manager and the cultural traditions represented.

  2. Graduated sanctions:

    • oral warning;
    • temporary exclusion for the remainder of the session;
    • exclusion for one or more sessions;
    • permanent exclusion from the activity (by decision of the Board of Directors).
  3. Any violent, insulting or discriminatory behaviour towards cultural traditions or other participants automatically results in a summons before the Board of Directors.

  4. Disciplinary decisions may be appealed to the General Assembly.

Title VIII - Liability

  1. Participants are informed that the practice of folk dance carries inherent risks. The ASBL implements reasonable preventive and safety measures. The liability of the ASBL is engaged in accordance with common law in the event of a breach of its organisational and supervisory obligations.

  2. The ASBL takes out civil liability insurance for its activities.

Title IX - Safety and first aid

  1. A first-aid kit is present at every session.

  2. In the event of an accident, first aid is administered and external emergency services are called if necessary.

  3. The contact details of emergency services are displayed at the place of practice.

  4. Any accident must be reported to the activity manager within 24 hours.

Title X - Events and representations

  1. The ASBL may organise or take part in cultural performances, festivals and events.

  2. Participation in performances is encouraged but is not mandatory.

  3. Those selected for a performance represent the ASBL and undertake to comply with these rules.

  4. Travel for performances is organised by the ASBL. Transport costs may be borne by the ASBL in accordance with the arrangements set by the Board of Directors.

Title XI - Data protection and image rights

  1. Performances, rehearsals and events may be subject to photographic and video recordings for communication and promotional purposes of the ASBL. Participation in these activities is conditional upon the prior signing of a consent form regarding image rights, in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The withdrawal of consent may be exercised at any time by written notification to the Board of Directors, with no retroactive effect on publications already made in good faith. Images of minors may only be captured and disseminated with the written consent of their legal representative.

Title XII - Ethics and values

  1. Folk dance is part of Kurdish cultural heritage. Participants undertake to respect the authenticity and richness of the traditions represented.

  2. Any use of dances or costumes for commercial purposes without the authorisation of the Board of Directors is prohibited.

Title XIII - Activity managers

  1. An activity manager is designated by the Board of Directors.

  2. The manager:

    • organises the sessions and rehearsals;
    • ensures compliance with these rules;
    • acts as a liaison with the Board of Directors;
    • manages any conflicts;
    • ensures the authentic transmission of choreographic traditions.
  3. In the event of absence, the manager designates a replacement.

Title XIV - Amendments to these rules

  1. These rules may be amended by the Board of Directors.

  2. Any amendment is communicated to members within 15 days.
